Volunteer Spotlight: Scott Tucker
Scott’s a singer by trade, and although he’s classically trained, he prefers to perform musical theatre, cabaret and pop. In fact, he’s usually involved in more than one project at a time, although he always finds a way to volunteer with Broadway Cares. “A really good friend of mine passed away from AIDS,” he said. “So after I finished a national tour of Showboat in ’99, I wanted to get involved. I have several friends now who are positive. AIDS touches my life daily.” Scott is really a volunteer leader, taking charge of others as an area captain for our annual Flea Market, and as a line-up manager for Broadway Bares. He’s someone who can think on his feet or follow a plan, so we always feel confident in trusting him with “the big jobs.” Still, no job is too big or small for Scott; he’s just happy to help out. So, why is Scott so drawn to Broadway Cares? “To get dates!” he grins. “Really, it’s a good feeling to know that what you’re doing will help people you may never even meet. The Flea Market is so much work, but it’s most rewarding. I feel in touch with the whole staff on that day, and with the entire theater community. It’s like a big family reunion.”
